Puttur, Aug 5: In connection to the Nellyadi robbery case, the police on Aug 1 had arrested two persons. In a faster pace the cops have held four others based on the information given by the accused in police custody.

The house of Dr Shastri of Hosamajalu in Koukradi village was robbed and the police were on a search for the culprits.

The CPI Puttur Rural Circle and staff have arrested Dileep (25), a resident of Bikkodu Belur taluk Hassan district. He was picked up by the police from his house on Aug 3 and a portion of the stolen gold jewellary and cash has been recovered from him. He is also involved in some theft and sandal wood smuggling cases in Hassan district.

Eshwar (25) a resident of Ekkashettahalli, Belur taluk Hassan district was arrested from his house on Aug 3 and a share of jewellary and some cash has been obtained from him.. He has a case of attempt to murder against him in Hassan district.
The third arrested was Masood (21) a resident of Magoudi village of N R Pura taluk of Chikmagalur district. Based on his confession jewellary and cash robbed was seized from him.  He is earlier involved in a case of robbery in Chikmagalur district.

Sayed Zainuddin (27) a resident of Coorg was arrested on Aug 4 from Kokkada village of Puttur taluk.

From the interrogation of the accused, it is been learnt that the gang had come to know each other while inside the jail in Chikmagalur in connection with their previous offences. They have also disclosed that on the day of offence, they had been to various places in Hassan district in search of sandal wood. When they could not find any sandal wood, the came to Nellyadi and robbed the house. While four of them had actually committed the crime, the others had provided support from outside.

All the accused have been produced before the jurisdictional court and remanded for judicial custody. Meanwhile the criminal case registered earlier as robbery has now been converted to Dacoity as more than five persons are involved.
