Rio de Janeiro, July 12 (IANS/EFE): FIFA statistics have showed that the 2014 World Cup in Brazil was the most polluted in history with the emission of 2.72 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
This amount is thrice than that emitted in the 2006 edition. Eighty-four percent of the carbon dioxide emissions in Brazil were attributed to transportation between host cities, reports Efe.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) said the emissions during the World Cup was equal to the pollution by 534,000 trucks operating for one year.
