Udupi, Aug 6: In a case of cheating by Mangala Health Education and Social Welfare Society, Bannanje, the depositors gathered at the Deputy Commissioners office on Saturday, Aug 5 demanding for justice.

The society had duped its depositors to the tune of Rs 20 crore. A memorandum was submitted to the DC which state that the Society based in Kankanady in Mangalore has a branch in Bannanje.

The society had closed its office which raised several doubts in the minds of the depositors.

Nearly 7 lac people had deposited their money and become members of the society which claimed to do social welfare.

According to sources the society which pulled down its shutters in Dec 2004 is said to have been taken over by Vikas Women’s Society. But this society too had obtained further deposits and disappeared.

The depositors on Saturday demanded immediate action against the erring persons.
