Barcelona, July 14 (IANS/EFE): FC Barcelona Sporting Director Andoni Zubizarreta has said that new signing Luis Suarez of Uruguay “learned a lesson for the future after what happened against Italy”.
Suarez was banned for nine matches and four months from any football activity after he bit Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini in a World Cup group match, reports Efe.
“Suarez went to the World Cup after a rushed recovery from a knee injury. He got both goals against England to ensure qualification for the second round but was then involved in a sorry episode with Italian defender Chiellini," Zubizarreta said.
"But he showed just how good he is in front of the goal and I’m sure he has learned a lesson for the future after what happened against Italy.”
Suarez is the fourth player to sign for Barcelona, from Liverpool, during the current transfer window after German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic and Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.
Suarez was the Premier League’s top goal scorer last season and shared the European Golden Shoe award with Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
