Sharjah, Aug 8:  A car plunged into the water when a couple was taking their dog for a ride car near Khalid Lagoon , police said.

The incident happened around 8pm on the Sharjah Corniche near the Central Souq when the Lebanese couple of Polish nationality were going for a drive.

Police said that the man who was parking his car near the Corniche accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. The car jumped forward, broke through the fence on the Corniche and plunged into the water with the couple and their dog inside it.

People on the street informed police who rushed to the scene and rescued the couple and the dog. Police said the woman wanted the dog to be rescued first. The couple was taken to hospital for a checkup and the man was questioned at Al Buhairah police station.
