Mangalore, Aug 8: The foundation stone for the NABARD financed Somanatha Ulliya-Ranipura Road, was laid by district in-charge minister B Nagaraj Shetty, on Monday August 7.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that at the administrative level meeting, it has been planned to implement the project of linking the smaller rivers of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts with ring canals. The final decision to this effect, will however be taken on Wednesday August 23, wherein a full-fledged expert committee and people’s representatives will take part. The completion of this project will boost tourism, fisheries and boating, he said.
Interlinking of the rivers is necessary, since Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts face severe shortage of water, despite heavy rains. This project was not considered until recently, although a study made by well-known agriculturist A G Kotci, was submitted to the government by Suresh Prabhu, Shiv Sena leader, four years ago, he added.
