New Delhi, July 16 (IANS): Tata Communications plans to invest more than $200 million towards doubling its data centre capacity in India from five lakh square feet to 10 lakh sq. ft. over a period of three years, the company said Wednesday.

"We are witnessing a surge in data generation and storage needs like never before. Enterprises are contending with trends such as bring your own device (BYOD), social networking, mobile, analytics and cloud - and Tata Communications is well placed to partner with them through these exciting times," said Rangu Salgame, chief executive officer, growth ventures, Tata Communications.

The 44th data centre of the company was inaugurated in Greater Kailash here Wednesday.

"Our global data centre portfolio underpinned with our unmatched network reach provides the infrastructure backbone that our customers can leverage to their advantage. This, our third data centre in Delhi, has been designed and constructed with a 'no-compromises' approach," he added.

"With an increase in the uptake of cloud services, datacentre has become a critical element in every enterprises' infrastructure strategy. The third party datacentre market is poised to grow very fast as many enterprises are now strategising to avail IT Infrastructure as a service' rather than investing in huge captive datacentres," Benoy C.S., director, ICT Practice, Frost & Sullivan, said.
