Chennai, July 16 (IANS): Buses and trucks manufacturer Scania Commercial Vehicles India Pvt. Ltd. is targeting to sell 650 vehicles this year and is looking at sourcing smaller engines from the domestic market, a top company official said.
"End of this year we will be selling 150 buses and 500 trucks. Next year we will be selling around 500 buses," managing director Anders Grundstromer told reporters here.
According to him, the company currently imports the driveline for the buses and trucks from Sweden.
He said the company is also looking at sourcing lower powered engines.
"The total local content in the bus chassis level is around 30 percent and we plan to double that soon," he remarked.
He said for the city transport market the company is looking at ethanol powered buses. Currently it is being tested in Nagpur.
Grundstromer was here to hand over the keys for the company's Metrolink buses to one of the largest travel operator here Parveen Travels.
Parveen Travels owns a bus fleet of around 1,300 vehicles.
