Berlin, July 21 (IANS): Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg cruised to start-finish victory, extending his lead on home soil following the German Grand Prix in Hockenheim Sunday.
Rosberg, who wrapped the pole position, crowned himself with his first Grand Prix win on home soil. The German crossed the finish line 20.7 second ahead of the Finn Valtteri Botta, who was followed by Lewis Hamilton with 1.8 seconds behind, Xinhua reported.
"That is fantastic. It is a great feeling to win here. I am sure we will celebrate tonight," Rosberg said.
Hamilton started a terrific comeback from 20th position leaving behind defending champion and Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo after 67 laps.
Third placer Hamilton said:"I did everything possible but it was tough to get through" .
Rosberg sealed his fourth triumph of the season and the seventh of his career. The 29-year-old Mercedes driver extended his points in the standings to 190 points, followed by Lewis Hamilton with 176 and Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo with 106 points.
Mercedes increase their lead in the constructor standings as they have 366 points meanwhile second placed Red Bull has 188 points followed by Williams with 121 points on third.
