Mumbai, July 22 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Tuesday surged 218.94 points or 0.85 percent as oil and gas stocks rallied.
All the sectors were trading in green and the rally was led by oil and gas, metal, auto and healthcare stocks.
The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 25,784.48 points, was trading at 25,934.11 points (at 12.26 p.m.), up 218.94 points or 0.85 percent from the previous day's close at 25,715.17 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 25,953.86 points and a low of 25,780.39 points in the trade so far.
The S&P BSE oil and gas index surged by 177.76 points, metal index increased by 134.52 points, auto index moved up by 115.43 points and healthcare index got augmented by 108.26 points.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 59.55 points or 0.77 percent up at 7,743.75 points.
