Taliban capture land in Afghanistan


Kabul, July 22 (IANS): Taliban militants, after three days of fighting with security personnel, occupied land in Afghanistan's Faryab province, police said Tuesday.

"Taliban militants attacked security check points in the western part of Qaisar district three days ago, which triggered a heavy battle between the two sides," Xinhua quoted a police official as saying. 

"The militants after three days of fighting occupied Shakh area Monday night," the official added.

According to the police, 30 Taliban militants and nine security personnel were killed and 21, including 17 militants, were injured during the three-day battle.
