Thai junta chief receives royally-endorsed interim charter

Bangkok, July 22 (IANS): Thai military junta chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha Tuesday evening received the royally-endorsed interim constitution of the country from King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Gen. Prayuth, chief of the National Council for Peace and Order ( NCPO), received the charter during a royal audience at Klai Kangwon Palace in Hua Hin district of central Prachuap Khiri Khan province, Xinhua reported citing the NCPO.

The provisional constitution is scheduled to come into effect within this month and thus pave the way for the establishment of a national legislative assembly, an interim government and a national reform council, which are set to successively take shape in the coming months.

Details of the provisional charter are expected to be revealed Wednesday.
