SAIL to tap overseas markets

New Delhi, July 23 (IANS): State-run SAIL plans to export higher volumes of steel after commissioning new facilities under modernisation and expansion plan, Minister of State for Steel Vishnu Deo Sai said Wednesday.

In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Sai said after completion of modernization and expansion, SAIL would have a portfolio of value-added products that would help the company tap markets of emerging economies and enhance its global presence.

SAIL plans to export plates to new destinations like Latin American and East African countries, and wire rods to Southeast Asian markets, besides neighbouring countries.

SAIL has fixed a higher export target of 0.6 million tonnes during the 2014-15 fiscal, which is about 71.43 percent higher as compared to 2013-14 target of 0.35 million tonnes.
