It won't be business as usual within Congress: Tharoor

New Delhi, Jul 23 (PTI): It won't be "business as usual" in the Congress after the severe drubbing in the elections and party president Sonia Gandhi would soon fix accountability and take decisions on revamping the party, former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor said today.

The decisions will be taken as per her own analysis and that of the A K Antony Committee report, he said.

Tharoor, who is also a Congress spokesperson, said only Sonia would be able to steer the party out of this crisis as she has seen two election losses in a row and two consecutive wins under her command.

Asked if it meant that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi would be taking a back seat, the two-time MP from Kerala told PTI in an interview, "Rahul has his own leadership role and will of course be supporting her. He was not the vice president when the party lost those elections and also won consecutively and hence I mentioned Sonia."

His comments came amid a feeling in a section of the party that Sonia, who was perceived to be slowly handing over the charge to Rahul, should continue to be at the forefront.

Asked about perception outside the party that it seems to be business as usual within the Congress despite the historical loss of being reduced to just 44 MPs in Lok Sabha as no accountability has been fixed or changes carried out, he said Sonia has herself met a number of party leaders and workers to form her opinion about why the party performed so badly.

"She has got her impression which will be added to what Antony Committee has concluded," he said, stressing that it won't be "business as usual" in the party which has set up a committee headed by Antony to study the reasons for the poor performance in the elections.

Tharoor said the party was already learning new ways to deal with the situation arising out of the small tally in Lok Sabha, besides making adjustments.

On criticism of Rahul not being an out and out politician, he said, "Rahul may not be a conventional politician but he is a grassroots politician."

Tharoor admitted that he would have personally liked to see Rahul as the Leader of the Party in Lok Sabha. "But he has decided that he will be more useful outside in the organisation. He was off to Badaun to condemn the rape and murder of the two girls.

"He is a young man who believes the party has an equally important role in the villages and the streets of India and not just in Parliament. He has a strong sense of what to do".

He argued that Rahul is not the one to run after positions or designations and is focused on strengthening the party.

Asked about open dissent within the party in Maharashtra and Assam, he said the high command was looking into the issues. "These seem to be issues of unfulfilled personal ambitions," Tharoor said.

Congress ruled this country for more than 65 years, after Independence from the British rule but most of the results they produced so far it effected negatively to the mass ,to the country.Sometime it is seen the politician the political parties specially Congress changed their views/agenda/Law as favor to their winning elections to rule again and again, seen as a unfortunate trend in Indian Politics..A change in guard is essential in democratic country people's voice is to be heard time to time for the betterment, to the mass to the country and it's image locally and internationally.Still globally the image of India considered to be a poor a hungry!!! A image we cannot change easily or even hard to digest even !!!Can we say it is a free gift from the congress or from our politicians who ruled this country so far !!!.

BJP\RSS made full use of Rahul for gaining support during their campaigning. They even compared the number of people attending their rallies and Rahul's besides other things, which was amusing to the crowd and TV\media watchers\readers and that worked well for BJP. It is not that BJP won outright from their own popularity.
It was a give away gift by Congress to BJP by projecting Rahul....
Are BJP doing anything better than UPA except use UPA's programmes for
the present? That shows their inability to do good to India by themselves.
However, since BJP is the Government now it is our duty to point out their inefficiency for them to become better so that we all can benefit and not suffer.

An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backwards.
When life is dragging you with difficulties, may be it is going to launch you into something great.
So just focus and keep aiming. Failures shouldn't deter us from ambition, analyze the causes, correct them and move on. We all failed and progressed.
Sonia, Rahul and entire congress, if they want to remain in Politics, should learn from their own mistakes and of others, correct them and move forward. People are interested in their well being not of politicians.

All Indians are Hindus.. because Hindu is not a religion... it is way of life...

Hindus are ready to accept any God as God. That is why they have Rama, Krishna, Shiva..... and even Budhdha (Budhist God), Mahaveera (jain's God), Nanak (Sikh's God).....
They have no problem in even accepting Allah and Jesus as also god provided, you should not force them to forget their previous dieties.

PROUD TO BE A HINDU (but in government record I am not)

    Hi Jossey,
You may call him "FEKU" daily 100 times. But the fact of life is he is our ( and your too) PM of the country. So it is better to accept the fact and start call him "PM". Secondly if you are dreaming that PAPPU will be PM of the country one day, then I think your dream will remain as dream only.

Congress itself is responsible for worst ever defeat in the last LS polls. The writing was on the wall for Congress ever since Anna Hazare started his movement against corruption and Congress' insensitivity using the water cannons to suppress the movement. That was the day Congress lost. Next the debate in Parliament till midnight about passing the Lokpal and Rahul's speech that showed that he is not cut out for politics. I wish Rahul Good Luck if he revives Congress.
