Mumbai, July 24 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Thursday hit record high of 26,190.81 points, surpassing its earlier highest peak of 26,190.44 points of July 8.
Selling pressure was seen in oil and gas, consumer durables and auto sectors, while good buying was observed in metal sector.
The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 26,188.50 points, was trading at 26,128.24 points (at 12.11 p.m.), down 19.09 points or 0.07 percent from the previous day's close at 26,147.33 points.
The Sensex has touched a high of 26,190.81 points and a low of 26,077.70 points in the day's trade so far.
The S&P BSE oil and gas index slipped by 82.03 points, consumer durables index dropped by 60.73 points and auto index slid by 60.58 points. However, metal index gained 203.47 points.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 6.30 points or 0.08 percent down at 7,789.45 points.
