Hockey Jr World Cup camp starts for probables


New Delhi, July 24 (IANS): A preparatory camp of the core probables for the 2016 Hockey Junior World Cup, scheduled to be held in India in December 2016, has started at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here.

Thirty three juniors are part of this camp which started Wednesday and will continue till Aug 18. Hockey India (HI) selection committee shortlisted these 33 out of 60 from the first preparatory camp which was held here from April 25 to June 6.

“We at HI are dedicatedly trying to work towards the upgradation in the quality of hockey in India. Our aim here is to mould the junior team in a manner where they are ready to take on challenges and deliver astonishing results in every match they play at the World Cup," HI secretary general Narinder Batra said.

"Being the hosts, we would like to see a performance matching up to the World Cup standards and these early preparations will help us reach the goal.”

The list of probables:

Goalkeepers: Vikas Dahiya, Subodh Tirkey, Abhinav Kumar Pandey, Jugraj Singh

Defenders: Abhay Ekka, Jarmanpreet Singh, Harmanpreet Singh, Anand Lakra, Sanjit Toppo, Abhishek Pratap Singh, Baljit Singh, Nilam Sanjeep Xess, Dipsan Tirkey, Varun Kumar

Midfielders: Sumit, Simranjeet Singh, Santa Singh, Prakash Barla, Harjeet Singh, S.H. Nilakanta Sharma, Imran Khan, Manpreet, Rajat Sharma, Ajay Yadav

Forwards: Parvinder Singh, Armaan Qureshi, Ajit Kumar Pandey, Mohd. Nizamuddin, Pawan Kumar, Raushan Kumar, Janma Majhi, Sumit Toppo, Sumit Kumar
