Bengal student attacked with acid inside home


Kolkata, July 24 (IANS): A woman college student suffered grievous injuries Thursday in an acid attack by an unidentified assailant inside her home in West Bengal's Burdwan district, police said.

The crime took place in Parapukur area of Burdwan town.

When the door bell rang around 10 a.m., the woman - who was alone at home then - opened the door. The assailant hurled the acid and ran away.

The student was admitted at the Burdwan Medical College Hospital.

Last month, a middle-aged woman suffered burn injuries when a man threw acid on her face at Chittaranjan railway station in the district.

According to NGO Acid Survivors Foundation India, 83 acid attacks were reported in the state between 2006 and 2013. At least 121 people, most of them women, received injuries.
