Patna, July 25 (IANS): Ahead of talks between top JD-U and RJD leaders here Friday on their proposed alliance, some leaders in both the parties have publicly opposed the tie-up.
RJD legislator Raghvendra Pratap Singh said: "It is not good for the party and no discussion was held in the party over it." But after party chief Lalu Prasad's intervention he has now fallen silent.
The RJD leader in the assembly, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, said: "Anyone opposing the alliance is free to leave the party."
In the JD-U, several party legislators, including Rajiv Ranjan and Dinesh Kushwaha are against the alliance.
Rajiv Ranjan said people would not accept the alliance with the RJD while Kushwaha suggested that the JD-U again join hands with the BJP instead of the RJD.
A senior JD-U leader admitted that voices have been raised in both parties against the proposal.
Lalu Prasad arrived here Thursday and is likely to soon take the final decision on the alliance.
Lalu Prasad has backed an alliance for the by-polls to 10 assembly seats but said a decision will be taken only after talks with JD-U leaders.
"This is the right time for talks on poll alliance. We will take a decision about it after talks between the leaders of both parties," Lalu Prasad said.
Earlier, former chief minister Nitish Kumar said all secular parties - including the Congress and the Left - needed to come together.
