Tomato prices skyrocket to Rs 80 per kg in some cities

New Delhi, July 25 (PTI) : Tomato prices have soared up to Rs 80 per kg in some parts of the country after a substantial drop in supply from key producing states.

The average price of tomato, monitored by the Consumer Affairs Department, in 59 cities, however, stood at Rs 60 per kg.

The vegetable is selling at Rs 80 per kg in Gurgaon and Port Blair. Tomato is available at Rs 75 per kg in Patna and Indore, while it is selling at Rs 70 per kg in Kolkata and Rs 65 per kg in Guwahati.
The other major cities which have witnessed a rise in tomato prices are Delhi, Karnal, Raipur, Panaji, Ahmedabad, Ranchi, Hyderabad and Bhubaneswar. The key kitchen ingredient is available at Rs 60 per kg in these cities.

Meanwhile, prices of tomato at Mother Dairy's Safal outlets are stable and it has not increased prices from last two days. Tomatoes are available at Rs 55 per kg at its outlets in the national capital region.

Tomato Merchants Association President at Azadpur Mandi Darshanlal Arora attributed the rise in prices to substantial drop in supplies from the northern part and high prices in other supplying regions in anticipation of drought.

"There is a steep fall in supplies from Himachal Pradesh this year which is the major supplier of tomatoes to northern part of the country. Besides this, the prices from another key suppling stations Nashik and Bangalore are higher compared to last year in anticipation of drought."

Problem is UPA came to power in the name of "Aam Aadmi" & price rise is considered as backstabbing.
Modi came to power with a slogan "Justice to All, Appeasement to none" and "Development"..
So far not even a single policy of appeasement and sensex going high shows the proof of development.

I do not think you have ever seen how tomato plant is...
By the way, I have never told in Kundapura it is grown in large scale...
Tomato can be grown even in your backyard....
This plant is quite strong and not easily subjected to any insects...
The cattle do not eat this plant as the plant smells different...
I used to grow them durng my high school days and used to produce around 30 kg in a week....
Can be grown during rainy season also...
The plant does not grow more than 2 feet height and hence can be planted anywhere even in the flowerpot...
Try and if it gives tomato, then you can withdraw the "feku" charges you put on me....:-)
Otherwise, withdraw the feku comment right now...:-)

Corrupt and lethargic Congress was in self correction mode in past few years. All the scams that came out in public was because they were cleaning the system. Instead of appreciation of they got a kick.
People rejected their course correction, bringing in much more criminal, corrupt and liars. The hope was that BJP with greatest of good will from people, would stick to honest principles of democracy and governance. Last few weeks, indicate they are not the one to trust, as they are tinkering around judiciary, promoting judges who are lenient to them.

Like police can control illegal activities in 24 hours if they want, Modi govt can control prices in 24 hours. But they can't. Because the promise they gave to merchants while taking the money for election fund, he can not have a volte face. Merchants here say articles are plenty, but only artificial shortage is created. Modi used to get lakhs of volunteers for meeting, he can get some volunteers and distribute the essential articles, but, he can not go back from his words given to merchants.

When price petrol/ diesel goes up everything depends on it. So it is only the Ambanis making money. This what happens when headless chickens vote for the wrong person. I am happy the price is going up as I am making profit even in that to."Ache din mereliya agaya hai."

BJP is busy in figuring out that "If Mrs.Sonia Gandhi is a Italian by marrying an Indian how to label Sania as Pakistani"....

Probably Dr.Swamy will help them to solve this problem. BJP dosent have time to think about petty issue's like Niruli, tomata, Basala, Badane etc etc....

Every prices are increasing for essential commodities Dear Modi if you don't know how to control the price just resign and leave the seat. Don't trouble the poor and middle class people of India.

We are likely to have this type of "Acchhe Din"
Traders in Nashik, procure all produce, store in big warehouses, For the order for 1 Ton, they say there is shortage, and supply only 750 kgs, that way they jack up prices!
Good days for them! Who has to control? By Tall promises they took peoples votes.
Now they take Notes from Traders!
