Former CJI was adamant on elevating corrupt judge: Katju

New Delhi, July 28 (IANS): Former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju Monday again complained of interferences in the appointment of judges, saying former chief justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan tried his best to elevate a judge to the apex court despite allegations of corruption against him.

Katju said in his blog post that he told Justice Kapadia that the said judge had a "very bad reputation about his integrity".

"I told Justice Kapadia that a chief justice of a high court, who had earlier been a judge of the Madras High Court, had a very bad reputation about his integrity," Katju wrote in his blog.

"I knew this because I had been the chief justice in Madras High Court," Katju said.

He said although Kapadia thanked him for the information, the Collegium of the Supreme Court, of which Kapadia was a member, recommended the judge's name to then CJI Balakrishnan.

Katju alleged that Balakrishnan was adamant that the judge should become a Supreme Court judge.

"Kapadia said that he remembered that I had warned him a year earlier, but Balakrishnan, the then CJI, was adamant on elevating this corrupt judge, saying that he (Balakrishnan) was earlier a chief justice of Madras High Court and knew that the allegations of corruption about him were untrue," Katju said.

not a fan of Katju's ideology.. but amazed by his brutal honesty always.. calls a spade a spade and not personally corrupt!! thats a plus.

timing and motive are never important!! if he is opening a can of worms, it should be thoroughly investigated.. All of us disclose the truth before our death. What if he died
the next day of this disclosure,
    would you ignore the truth.?
    So, the timing doesn't matter.

You are partly wrong and partly correct. Both things matter, the Truth as well as the Timing. Truth spoken in time can prevent further wrong doing and can prevent evidence from being destroyed completely or crime being covered up. It can act as a deterrent to other potential wrong doers.
What is the use of just knowing the truth about some crime if it is done so late that proper justice cannot be delivered. We all know that justice delayed is justice denied.

Yes Venu, I agree with you.
But, what about the future generation?, records?, the history?.
The whole country, the world is
under the impression that Mouna Mohana has been a clean man.
Let the truth come out and reality remain on record.
Let the facts with evidence prevail. Not the mythology as is taught for students in Gujarat.
Let us teach our children the facts
and not the grand old faith and fiction.

Well done Justice Katju during congress regime these corrupt crooks erupted like mushrooms. Metals has to cut with a metal(LOHA LOHE KO KADTHA HAI)at least you have a guts to bring this matter into light. Nothing is late then ever. About thief justice KGB and his son-in-law s matter rotten in Kerala state and known all over India. Since a supreme court judge brought this matter to light one can definitely judge our Judicial system how far it is trust worthy???

Before we lose our trust in our judicial system, Sonia & Mouna Mohana should come forward and disclose the truth.
I have a suggestion to change his name to Mouna Mohana Screwalla.
