DU student attacked by two men, one nabbed


New Delhi, July 28 (IANS): A Delhi University student is critical after being attacked by two men whose advances she had spurned, police said Monday, adding one of the attackers has been arrested.

The 22-year-old who lives in Kondli area of east Delhi received multiple cut marks after the two men attacked her Sunday with paper cutters. 

One attacker, Wasim Akram, 25, was arrested from his residence in Kalyanpuri area of east Delhi Sunday while his friend and neighbour Wasim Khan is on the run.

"A case of attempt to murder has been registered against the duo," said a police official.

Both the accused, who were infatuated with her, attacked her in New Ashok Nagar area of east Delhi around 8.30 p.m. Sunday while she was on her way home from a beauty parlour where she works part-time.

A B.Com. student, she was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital where doctors said her condition is critical.

"There are several deep cut marks on the victim's head, face, stomach and left arm," said the official.

"During inquiry, we learnt both were after the victim for the past two years to win her over, but she spurned their advances many times. She had even registered a molestation case against them for misbehaving with her, with the Kalyanpuri police station in 2013," the official added.
