Puttur, Aug 18: Noted writer and teacher Prof Leela Bhat (81) passed away at Bannur on Friday August 18 morning.

Born on December 24, 1925, she completed her primary and high school education in Puttur and did her higher education from Government College and St Anne's College in Mangalore.  After completing her B.Ed from St Anne's College, she began her teaching career in Puttur Board High School in 1949.  She was the head of Kannada department of MGM College near Udupi from 1954 to 1981.

Other than a well-accepted and love teacher, she was a well-known Kannada writer too.  Her write-ups have regularly been published in many Kannada magazines. She was the constant and close companion of the late Shivram Karanth.  She had even brought out a book called "Leela-Karantara Nenepina Samputa"

She had also published a research book "Tulunadina Sasyaradhane".  Her book "Bhoota-Nagara Naduve" has been well-acclaimed by all.  She was president of fourth taluk literary conference held here in 1997.
