Rio de Janeiro, July 30 (IANS): Luiz Felipe Scolari has been appointed manager of Brazilian top-flight club Gremio, just two weeks after he resigned as Brazil coach.
The 65-year-old replaces Enderson Moreira, who stepped down following the club's 2-3 loss to Coritiba in Brazil's Serie A Sunday, reported Xinhua.
It will be Scolari's third spell in charge of Gremio, as he had coached the Porto Alegre club in 1987 and from 1993 to 1996.
"The confirmation came this afternoon. He is coming back after 18 years," Gremio said in a brief statement on its official web site.
Scolari and his backroom staff quit their Brazil posts following the team's failure to make the World Cup final earlier this month as hosts and pre-tournament favourites.
It was still unclear who would fill Gremio's assistant coaching positions.
The club is currently 10th in the Serie A standings with 19 points from 12 matches.
Scolari is expected to speak to the media at a press conference Wednesday.
