Mangalore, Aug 21: Out of the 155 churches under Mangalore diocese, only St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia celebrated Konkani Fudara Divas in a very grand and novel manner on Sunday, Aug 21.
A cultural festival was organized to mark the day on which Konkani was given constitutional status 14 years ago.
Twelve wards of the parish got together to observe this day and also to promote Konkani, its culture, art forms and traditions.
The cultural evening had colourful dances, live music, skits, traditional songs etc.
The programme which began at 6 pm was presided over by Dr Edward Nazareth. Konkani poet C G S Taccode, parish priest Fr Paul Pinto, assistant parish priest Fr Kiran Pinto, vice-president Louis Pinto and secretary Arun Raj were also present on the occasion.
A sign of true Christian brotherhood which put across the message of sharing was the distribution of eatables (Haldi Kolyacho Patolyo) which all the ward members of the 12 wards of the parish joined together in preparation.
