Steps to check pollution in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 1 (IANS): Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung Friday agreed to measures suggested by a high-powered committee to curb air and water pollution in the national capital.

Jung had set up the committee in May this year after the World Health Organisation's report that said Delhi is the world's worst city in terms of air pollution.

The anti-pollution steps will be implemented on mission mode by all the concerned government agencies, said an official.

The committee under the chairmanship of Delhi chief secretary S.K. Srivastava has recommended regulating the entry and exit of non-destined vehicles in Delhi.

It has also suggested adopting a rationalised parking policy.

The committee also proposed to set up Air Quality Monitoring Stations in the national capital region.

The formulation of a new public transport plan is also on the agenda.
