Sharjah, Aug 22: In a unique program of Dhwani Prathishtaana, the renowned Bhagavatha Narayana Shabaraya illustrated the literary content in the yakshagana poems better known as “prasangas”. The program was arranged at the Mysore Palace Restaurant Hall in Sharjah on the 19th Aug 2006.

S.S.Rao welcomed Narayana Shabaraya with flower bouquet and a momento was presented on behalf of Dhwani Prathishtaana.

Chief coordinator of Dhwani Prathisthaana, Prakash Rao Payyar welcomed the gathering and praised the audience for showing continued interest in quality literary programs presented by Dhwani Prathishtaana. P.S Shenoy introduced Narayana Shabaraya, as a star performer who has been in this yakshagana field for more than two decades, serving various troupes.

While Narayana Shabaraya presented selected poems rich in literary content with a lot of expression, Gopinath Rao explained the context and uniqueness of the poem in the respective prasangas.

Shabaraya started off with a Ganesha Sthuthi and moved on to different songs hand picked to give the best of yakshagana prasangas in the limited available time. Songs such as “sati shiromani prabhaavathi (sudhanva kalaga) nudiye ninnodeyana pesarodanudiye (Rathnavati Kalyana by Muddana) were presented by versatile Shabaraya to the pleasure of the audience. He also sang the latest song from their last years hit sankraanthi (dharma sankraanthi) which instantly won the hearts of the audience. The program was concluded with a mangala song.

At the end, Mr. B K Ganesh Rai thanked Shabaraya for such a pleasurable depiction of the ragas and literary content and Dhwani Prathishtaana for arranging and presenting such a good program within a short notice. Aurthar Pereira Omjur presented the vote of thanks.
