Washington, Aug 4 (IANS): American tennis star Serena Williams beat Angelique Kerber 7-6(1), 6-3 to win the Bank of the West Classic.
It was the first tournament for Williams after her withdrawal from Wimbledon several months ago, and it was the fourth WTA title for the American this year, reports Xinhua.
Williams trailed 1-5 in the first set (and saved two set points at 2-5) before reeling off the next five games to take a 6-5 lead, then won the tiebreaker at 7-1. And with her first serve varying in speed from 100 to 120 mph, she turned up the pressure in the second to win her third straight Bank of the West title.
