Militants kidnap two tribals in Tripura

Agartala, Aug 11 (IANS): Militants have kidnapped two tribal youths in Tripura, police said here Monday.

The incident took place Sunday when around eight heavily armed NLFT (National Liberation Front of Tripura) militants raided the Natun Jairam Para village in northern Tripura and abducted two youths from their houses, police said.

"The rebels have taken the hostages to Bangladesh. We have asked the BSF to hold a flag meeting with the BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) to rescue the captives," Inspector General of Police Anurag Dhyankar said.

Police suspect that the militants kidnapped the two youths - Udairam Reang, 26, and Juriram Reang, 28 - for ransom.

Senior district and police officials led by Deputy Inspector General Khatrajoy Reang have rushed to the spot, 215 km north of here.

An anti-insurgency operation has been launched in the mountainous area that shares an unfenced border with Bangladesh.

Police said this was the second terrorist incident this year in Tripura.

Earlier, a tribal villager was abducted by the militants from northern Tripura.
