Puttur, Aug 28: A rider was killed when a lorry knocked him down from his Bullet bike on National Highway 48 at Mannagundi of Hosamajalu near Nelyadi here.

The deceased has been identified as Shekhar Shetty (32), a resident of Boodujalu near Nidle in Beltangady taluk.  He had come to one of his relatives' house at Pollottu near here on Sunday. After being present at a local Ganesh chaturthi programme, he was going home riding his Bullet bike (CNX 4285) when an unidentified lorry rammed him from behind.  The lorry did not stop on the spot after the accident.

Shekhar sustained serious injuries and was immediately admitted to Ashwini Hospital here by some locals who came out of their house after hearing the sound of the accident.  Thereafter he was even taken to Mangalore fro treatment.  However, he died on the spot. 

Sources said that he had married only a month ago.  Uppinangady police have registered a case in this regard.
