E-prescription adopted in Bengal government hospitals

Kolkata, Aug 11 (IANS): Catching up with digitisation sweeping the nation, many government hospitals in West Bengal have started the process of issuing e-prescriptions instead of hand-written instructions, officials said Monday.

The e-prescription format has been adopted by several departments of the SSKM Hospital - the state's largest referral hospital - along with the NRS Medical College and Hospital, MR Bangur Hospital and the Howrah General Hospital, official sources said.

The biggest advantage of the system is that a patient has all his medical data stored in the server of the health department which can be referred to in future.

Till date, details of around 36,000 patients have been stored.

Private medical facilities in the city and the rest of the state have already adopted the system.
