Syrian forces kill 35 rebels in Idlib

Damascus, Aug 12 (IANS): At least 35 rebels were killed Tuesday by the Syrian forces in the country's northern province of Idlib, Syria's state-run news agency SANA reported.

Most of those killed in the town of Takharim in Idlib belonged to the Al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front, Xinhua quoted SANA as saying in a report. It added that the army destroyed rebels' vehicles outfitted with machine-guns.

The Syrian troops have been making considerable advancement against an array of radical groups in Idlib.

The Syrian troops are working to tighten the siege on the town of Mlaiha in the countryside of the capital Damascus, said SANA, adding that the government forces intensified their operations in the Mlaiha and its surroundings in tandem with similar operations in the nearby towns of Zabdin and Jisreen, where the troops killed many rebels.

The Syrian troops have been involved in intense battles against the rebel groups across Syria during the country's long- standing crisis that has claimed the lives of over 100,000 people and displaced millions of others.
