Labour unrest leads to shutdown in Gurgaon factories

Gurgaon, Aug 12 (IANS): Workers affiliated to labour union Hind Mazdoor Sabha Tuesday suspended work in over a dozen factories here, a union leader said.

Several companies, including Baxter, Hero MotoCorp, Endurance, Degania Medical, Lumax, Lumax DK, Satyam Auto, Hilex India, Mitsubishi India, Bajaj Auto and Xvarian Auto, were forced to close for the day.

The workers first demonstrated at the main gates of the factories and later suspended work for the day, protesting the suspension of their colleagues from Baxter India in the Industrial Model Township of Manesar.

The workers also protested the alleged decision by Hero MotoCorp to force workers to take voluntary retirement, amid news that the company was shifting its plant to Rajasthan, union leader Kuldeep Janghu told IANS.

No untoward incident was reported from any factory during the protest.
