Udupi, Aug 29: Senior BJP leader has been appointed chairman of  the third state finance commission set up by the government.  Dr Mahendra S Kanthi, an Internationally-acclaimed economist and son of former chief minister S R Kanthi and retired IAS officer T Thimme Gowda have been appointed members of the commission.

A G Kodgi holds a degree in law and has enormous experience as an advocate.  He has been the president of various cooperative societies and associations in the undivided district of Dakshina Kannada.   He has also served as the president of Kundapur Urban Development Authorit.

During his long political career he had been the member of Mangalore ZP from 1987 to 1991.  He was also the member of the assembly from 1972 to 1983.  He is still considered as one of the top level BJP leaders in the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.  Moreover, he perhaps he is respected more than any other leader by party members for his unflinching spirit and unconditional commitment to the party.
