Udupi, Aug 30: Minister for medical education and district in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya while addressing a press conference here urged the union government to release the fund for the repair work of NH 17 and NH 48.
Despite sending a proposal to release Rs 100 crore to concretise the damaged highway at Shiradi Ghat and Rs 47.67 crore to concretise the highways in DK and Udupi districts, the centre has failed to response.
At present, 96 km of National Highway in Udupi, 83 km in Dakshina Kannada and 36 km in Hassan are critically damaged. The executive engineer of the highways has even written to the ministry cautioning about the National Highways becoming non-motorable if no action is taken soon.
The chief engineer, National Highways is expected to visit the districts on September 8 to examine the situation.
Among those present at the press meet were State Finance Commission chairman A G Kodgi, MLAs K Raghupati Bhat and Lalaji R Mendon, Udupi taluk APMC president Vijay Kumar Udyavar and ZP member Kota Srinivas Poojary.
