Hyderabad, Aug 14 (IANS): The Telangana government has decided to build a hanging bridge and a habitat centre here as part of its efforts to promote brand Hyderabad.

The hanging bridge will be built across Durgam Cheruvu, the historic lake in Hitec City, the Information Technology hub housing many global IT giants.

IT Minister K. Tarakarama Rao Thursday said Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) was working with architects to design the bridge.

"It is going to be a new landmark in Hyderabad. It will be a wonderful and unique pillar-less structure," the minister said.

He also announced that Hyderabad Habitat Centre (HCC) would be built with an investment of over Rs.100 crore to promote the art and heritage of the city. He hoped that this would be better than New Delhi's Indian Habitat Centre.

The minister said the government was already working on the project. It was immediately not clear if the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government would revoke the decision taken by the previous Congress government last year with regard to HHC.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) had decided to set up HHC on 11-acre site at Khanamet.

The executive committee of HMDA had approved Rs.266 crore project planned under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

The officials had then said that HHC would function as a hub for different art forms, cultural and related activities.

Meanwhile, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Thursday announced that it would build 14 structures at the entry points into the city.

GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar said the 14 gateways would be in line with the local culture and architecture.

The official also announced that 'freedom from potholes' initiative will be launched soon. The civic body plans to use infrared technology to fill the potholes on the roads.
