Samsung to set up technical training schools in Bengal

Kolkata, Aug 14 (IANS): Aiming to create human resource capital, South Korean conglomerate Samsung will set up seven technical schools in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said Thursday.

"I am happy to announce that they have agreed to set up seven technical schools in the state to impart industrial training. The schools will be run in seven industrial training institutes of the state," Banerjee said during a state government programme here.

She said two of the seven schools will be reserved for girls who will also be given 50 percent fee concession. The chief minister also invited the conglomerate to invest in West Bengal offering land and other facilities.

President and Chief Executive Officer of Samsung South West Asia B.D. Park said the training will help India in developing its human resource.

"South Korea and India share a long standing relation. In Seoul, we have a bust of (Nobel laureate) Rabindranath Tagore who described South Korea as the lamp of the east," said Park.

"After this training, the youth will become India's human resource capital," said Park adding that the company has employed nearly 11,000 Indian scientists and engineers besides running 18 such training schools across the country.
