Grandparents, father booked for kidnapping minor girl

Gurgaon, Aug 14 (IANS): A Delhi-based family -- grandparents and father of a seven-year-old girl -- were booked here for kidnapping her, police said Thursday.

The girl's father Amit Kumar Sharma, her grandfather Rampal Sharma and grandmother Daya Sharma, residents of Delhi's Sarojini Nagar, have been booked under section 363 (kidnapping) and 34 (common intent) of the Indian Penal Code.

The case has been registered on the complaint of the girl's mother, Jyoti Sharma.

Jyoti, in her complaint, said: "The trio came to my house in the DLF-3 area Tuesday and abducted my daughter during my absence. They also threatened my maid."

Police official Naveen Kumar told IANS: "Amit and Jyoti got married in Delhi some eight years ago. Later, Rampal sent the couple to Australia for higher studies. They started bickering over differences after returning to India a few years back."

A divorce case between Amit and Jyoti is pending in a Delhi court that has however not given any directions regarding custody of the child.
