Berlin, Aug 16 (IANS): Wolfsburg have signed former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner with immediate effect, the "Wolves" announced in an official statement.
The 26-year-old striker was on a free agent after being released by Arsenal London at the end of the last season. Bendtner penned a three-year deal, which keeps him with the Lower Saxony side until June 2017, reports Xinhua.
"Nicklas Bendtner is a striker in his prime age, whose career was not always straightforward. However, he gained a lot of international experience and will increase our offence quality," Wolfsburg's manager Klaus Allofs told the clubs official homepage.
The Denmark's international played from 2005 until 2014 for Arsenal, yet he spent three years on loan at Birmingham City, Sunderland and Juventus. Wolfsburg's new arrival scored 24 goals in 108 appearances for Arsenal.
"Wolfsburg is a great club with good players and a good environment. It makes you happy if such a club comes up with an offer. Therefore the decision was not difficult for me. Wolfsburg is the right place for me," Bendtner said.
Bendter joined Denmark's national team in 2006 to score 24 goals in 59 appearances. His new club completed the last Bundesliga season on 5th position to ensure a berth at the UEFA Europa League.
