Mangalore, Sep 1: Following an agitation by the villagers led by Nagarika Samiti demanding a PU college at Montepadau, the PU Education Department has announced that a college would be set up temporarily.
The new PU College will be start functioning at Montepadavu in Naringana village temporarily from Monday.
PU education deputy director Sheelavati Kolambe informed this on Wednesday, Aug 30.
It may be noted that the Montepadavu was on the top list of places with priority for setting up a PU college. A proposal to start nine colleges was sent last year. Out of which five have been sanctioned. However in the second phase proposals were sent for sanctioning three more new colleges. Montepadavu was on top priority for being sanctioned a PU College. But it was not done.
The wrong information given by the officials led to pressure on the education department both from MLA and villages to start a new college. The department was helpless.
“Since starting of a new college continues to face technical problems, the college will commence in September considering the future of the students. Only 45 students will be the intake. After the PU education department sanctions the college it will function as a permanent college," said Sheelavati Kolambe.
Although a temporary college will be started at Montepadau, the registration of the students will be done at the nearby government PU College, Kurnad.
