Indian, Pakistani troops clash along LoC


Jammu, Aug 17 (IANS): Indian and Pakistani troops traded gunfire Sunday on the Line of Control (LoC) after the Pakistanis violated the 2003 ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir, an official said.

"The Pakistan Army fired at our positions using small arms and automatic weapons in Hamirpur area (in Rajouri district)," military spokesman Colonel Manish Mehta told IANS.

The Pakistan firing started at 8.30. "Our troops retaliated with similar calibre weapons," he said.

The spokesman said no casualty or damage had been reported on the Indian side.

In a separate incident also Sunday, Pakistan Rangers fired at the Border Security Force (BSF) on the international border in R.S. Pura area of Jammu district.

The army guards the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir while the BSF is posted on the international border in the state.
