Trinamool opposes Modi's plan to scrap plan panel

Kolkata, Aug 17 (IANS): Questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision to do away with the Planning Commission, the Trinamool Congress Sunday dubbed the move "inappropriate".

"Such a big decision of scrapping the commission cannot be taken suddenly and merely through an announcement during a speech. Trinamool Congress in no way supports that," party MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay told media persons here.

"What wrong did the commission do that they had to announce its scrapping? We don't think it's an appropriate decision," he added.

Calling for reforming the Planning Commission, Modi in his Independence Day speech suggested "constructing a new house altogether".
