Arrests at Israeli inter-faith wedding

London, Aug 18 (IANS): Four Jewish protestors were arrested at a wedding of a Jewish-born woman who converted to Islam and an Arab Muslim man in Israel, media reported Monday.

More than 100 protestors rallied outside the reception hall in Israel's Rishon LeZion city Sunday amid high security, BBC reported.

The 26-year-old groom, Mahmoud Mansour, had sought a court order to try to stop the protest from taking place but failed.

The bride, Morel Malka, 23, and Mansour had invited 500 guests to the wedding.

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin condemned the demonstrations against the couple's union.

Supporters of the Jewish Lehava group, who oppose the inter-marriage of Arab Muslims and Jews, were granted permission to picket the wedding as long as they did not come within 200 metres of the wedding hall.

But four protesters were arrested for failing to follow police instructions.

A counter-demonstration of protestors was also staged in support of the couple's marriage, with hundreds of police deployed to keep the two sets of demonstrators apart.
