Mangalore, Sep 2: The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind's Mangalore unit has opposed the order of the State Government making the singing of "Vande Mataram" compulsory in the schools.

According to a press release from the organisation here on Friday, the Vande Mataram song included conditions that contradict "Tauheed" or principles of "omnipotence" as it glorifies the creation and sidelines the creator. The release stated that the country was created by human beings for their convenience that had to respected.

Terming Vande Mataram as a "controversial song" the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind stated that the State and the country that worked under democracy could not impose the practice "unacceptable" methods of nationalism. The Jamaat-E-Islami considered this as an attempt to challenge certain sections of the society, the release added.
