Gunmen hold up Saudi convoy in Paris, rob 250,000 euros

Paris, Aug 18 (IANS): Eight gunmen attacked a Saudi prince's motorcade, making off with 250,000 euros (about $335,000) and important diplomatic documents, media reported Monday.

In a commando-style operation, the armed men forced the Saudi embassy's motorcade to pull over to the side of the road in northern Paris at 9.15 p.m. Sunday while it was en route to the Bourget airport.

The heavily-armed men did not open fire at the passengers of the vehicle who were all released later, Xinhua reported citing the news channel BFMTV.

The car of the unidentified gunmen was found burnt later Sunday night.

Paris police have launched an investigation to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
