India calls off talks with Pakistan

New Delhi, Aug 18 (IANS): India Monday called off the foreign secretary level talks with Pakistan scheduled for Aug 25 after the latter's high commissioner Abdul Basit held talks with separatist Kashmiri leaders here.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said the talks have been called off as "no useful purpose will be served" by Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh's visit to Islamabad.

"Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh's visit to Islamabad for talks on Aug 25 stands cancelled," he said.

He added that Pakistan's interference in India's internal matters, which "continued unabated", was unacceptable.

"It was underlined that Pakistan high commissioner's meeting with the so-called leaders of the Hurriyat undermined constructive diplomatic engagement initiated by the prime minister (Narendra Modi) on his very first day in office," Akbaruddin said.

"Indian foreign secretary, therefore, conveyed to the Pakistan high commissioner today (Monday) in clear, unambiguous terms that Pakistan's continued efforts to interfere with India's internal affairs were unacceptable," he said.

Pakistan can resolve issues with India only if it allows the bilateral dialogue to be guided by the Simla Agreement of 1972 and the Lahore Declaration, he added.

"The only path available to Pakistan is to resolve outstanding issues with peaceful, bilateral dialogue within the framework and principles of Simla Agreement and the Lahore Declaration," Akbaruddin said.

Good Move by our PM. India took so much patience and still because India is a peace loving country. That's why PM Modi also cautious in reply. Unless PAK stops cross boarder fighting and infiltrate Indian territory no talks. THis is a warning sign to them and from the Government . If they want peace let them come forward genuinely not the way from behind act.

Pakistan is always with a proxy war with India about Kashmir, a fact known to everyone.Pakistan cannot fight India directly or can win so it is as always using third party conflict in between!!!Only one option to India and a permanent solution to it, takeover Azad Kashmir to a unified Kashmir and solve the problem once for all !!!.

When I was in middle east, I happened to interact with Balochistanis, who hate pakistan at least 50 times more than us.

It will be just 1 week job for India to free Oil & Gas rich Balochistan, as we have experience in liberating Bangladesh.

However, India wants to keep goodwill. Pakistan wants to take advantage of the goodwill. Hope Modi will liberate balochistan which makes Pakistan to keep quite at least for another 3 decades.

..Ismail, sickular Congress created all the mess & problem facing INDIA now..we would have solved kashmir in the first war itself..But Nehru took decission to return from kashmir..he created a state out of state in kashmir with special provisions which further alienated kashmir from rest of the country..CHINA could have been tamed in the early years since it was poor country back then..but Nehru's bhai bhai policy took toll of INDIA,he pushed unprepared Army to war..result is death & humiliated defeat..undue importence has been given to separatist who plays in the hands of pakis & bleeds our knows..60 years our spineless Govt succumed to every pressure..time has run out for present Govt to move around, restricting continue with earlier policies OR take some bold decission and wait papistan to disintegrate itself by his papis..just imagine INDIA without Patel, we would have several countries like Hyderabad,Telangana,Baroda,Travancor,Goa fighting each other for water to land..

    Few questions.

    1. Where are Kashmiri separatists residing?
    2. If in India, are they behind bars or under house arrest?
    3. If not, aren't they free citizens of India?
    4. Who is allowing Pakistan officials to meet them in India?

Excellent move! The pakistani high commissioner decides to hold a meeting with kashmiri separatists in Delhi before the meeting ! He obviously thought the government of India would remain muted as always. Well, he was wrong. We finally have a government which is staunchly pro-India, and gone are the days of ISI sponsored, corrupt NGO led "track 2 diplomacy" with Pakistan.

This is the most "Commendable Job" done by the Present Government after coming to power. All Patriot Indians must welcome this move.

Issues can be sorted out through bilateral "Dialogue" to be guided by the Simla Agreement of 1972 and the Lahore Declaration.

Government has to maintain "Diplomacy" and not to lose it's "Cool".
