Who funded Mamata's maiden foreign tour, asks BJP

Kolkata, Aug 18 (IANS): Questioning the efficacy of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Singapore visit to hunt for investors, the BJP Monday sought to know who has funded the tour.

State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rahul Sinha said the party was in the process of filing a right to information (RTI) application to know the source of funding.

"The chief minister has carried a big entourage to Singapore where they will be staying for five-six days. We want to know who has funded this tour. Whether the taxpayers' money is being wasted or some private parties have contributed," he told media persons here.

Sinha also flayed the ruling Trinamool Congress over the alleged rape and murder of a housewife in Contai in East Midnapore district.

Talking about the upcoming bypoll in the Chowringhee and Basirhat South assembly constituencies, Sinha said the party will soon announce its candidates. He added he will hold a meeting with party president Amit Shah on the issue.
