Islamabad, Aug 18 (IANS): Pakistan Supreme Court Monday said the ongoing political crisis in the country should be handled by the government and decided not to intervene in the matter, media reported.

The court submitted that the ongoing political crisis and alleged violation of fundamental rights ensuing from the impasse between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) are a matter for the government to decide, the Dawn online reported.

"It is for the government to handle," a five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk said about the ongoing sit-in.

The petition was filed last week by Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Kamran Murtaza.

During Monday's hearing, Attorney General Salman Aslam Butt had said that fundamental rights are being violated.

"We are the guardians of the constitution, we have taken oath under the constitution. We cannot permit any deviation... this is our obligation," Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said.

Nisar maintained that the petitioner has to submit a comprehensive statement.

The petitioner argued that the current political impasse is adversely affecting all spheres of national life and such a situation may embolden some elements to take undue advantage of the situation and to resort to unconstitutional measures.
