Markets hit record high; Nifty crosses 7,900-mark


Mumbai, Aug 19 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets touched a record high of 26,526.62 points Tuesday surpassing its previous high of 26,413.11 point that was touched Monday.

All the sectors were trading in green and the rally was led by capital goods, metal and oil and gas sectors.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 26,482.56 points, was trading at 26,487.72 points (at 09.23 a.m.) in the early session, up 96.76 points or 0.37 percent from the previous day's close at 26,390.96 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 26,526.62 points and a low of 26,469.32 points in the trade so far.

The S&P BSE capital goods index surged 190.71 points, metal index gained by 155.63 points and oil and gas sector index increased by 129.60 points.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also hit record high and was trading at 36.05 points or 0.46 percent up at 7,910.30 points.
