New Delhi, Aug 19 (IANS): The union urban development ministry wants to set up a separate agency to maintain public toilets in Delhi.
The ministry wants the agency to be set up on the Public Private Partnership model, and will consult the government of Delhi on the issue.
"In a meeting with Delhi government officials (M. Venkaiah) Naidu (urban development minister) told them that a required institutional framework would be put in place for the purpose," said a ministry official.
In his maiden Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had stressed the need to build toilets.
Officials of Delhi Development Authority and civic agencies were present in the meeting.
The minister also instructed that the handing over and taking over of public utilities between DDA and Delhi municipal bodies should be done within two months and a Standard Operating Protocol needed to be evolved.
