Bangalore, Sept 4: Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and his CM-son H.D. Kumaraswamy, are learnt to have pledged their eyes to Narayana Nethralaya recently marking the observance of Eye Donation Fortnight between August 25 and September 8.
Karnataka Lok Ayukta Justice N.Santosh Hegde and cine stars Vishnuvardhan and Shivaraj Kumar are also among those who have pledged their eyes to the institution, it is learnt.
"We have received 65 offers of eye donation after late Dr. Rajkumar donated his eyes," sources in Nethralaya said.
Speaking after pledging his eyes, Kumaraswamy is learnt to have exhorted others also to do the noble act saying: "Instead of allowing your eyes to merge with the soil after burial or get burnt, please donate your eyes."
It is also learnt that Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai, film actors B. Saroja Devi, Dodannana and India's cricket legend Anil Kumble have donated their eyes.
